Journal Communications was founded in 1988 by a visionary group of investors that included Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Robin Hood and legendary “Roots” author Alex Haley. Haley famously kept the words “Find the good – and praise it” printed at the bottom of his personal stationery. While those words predated the company, they perfectly captured our mission of telling the stories of places and people through distinctive photography and compelling editorial content. Today, that phrase remains our official company motto and guiding light.
We began our journey with a focus on high-quality, turn-key print publishing. However, as the media landscape changed, so did we. To prove our adaptability and expand our impact, we successfully transitioned from traditional print roots into a powerhouse of integrated digital content marketing.
To better serve the diverse pillars of regional economies, we expanded our specialized storytelling into three distinct divisions – Livability Media, Farm Flavor Media and Journal Communications Travel Publishing.
